As we start a fresh new year full of possibilities, our thoughts turn to the future: What will happen? What will we achieve? And what will we experience?
On the other hand, sometimes in order to know where we are going, it is necessary to reflect on where we have been. And that brings us to January’s poll question.
We would like to know: compared to 15 years ago, what has drastically changed in your life due to technology.
Here are some examples:
- Back then, you had to spend hours in a classroom (and sit in those uncomfortable desks with the tables attached to the chairs!). Now, you can log into your class from the comfort of your own home — or if you prefer, your favorite coffee shop.
- Back then, you spent a lot of time walking back and forth to the mailbox to return your Netflix DVDs (you DID return them, right???). Now, you simply click a button on your remote or smartphone and stream more Netflix than you can handle.
- Back then, to access mobile Wi-Fi, you had to plug in a cellular modem that looked like a black brick and hope the connection was stable and fast. Now, you can find Wi-Fi access points all over the place (including the restaurant next door that really should switch to WPA2).
These are just a few of the countless ways technology may have profoundly changed your professional and personal life since 2007. Please share some of the most notable shifts that you can think of.
Another way to look at this month’s poll question is to imagine that you used a time machine back to go back to 2007 (don’t forget the flux capacitor!), came across your younger self, and said: “Wow, you won’t believe this, but 15 years from now, thanks to technology, you’ll be able to do ______________ instead of ______________ .”
As always, we are looking forward to your responses. Feel free to be as creative as you wish. There are no limits! We’ll look at some of your contributions in early February.
