November Poll Question: Managed Service Providers, What are Your Top 3 Features in a Remote Monitoring and Management Solution?

The MSP marketplace is growing, but a majority of MSPs are struggling to make a profit. One major factor contributing to this disparity between the successful few and the struggling majority is that successful MSPs have carefully selected and implemented an RMM solution that best suits their needs. Devolutions is canvassing MSPs in its community to discover what MSPs really need in an RMM solution in order to succeed.

Hello! My name is Laurence Cadieux, and I’m a Communication Coordinnator here at Devolutions. My role includes overseeing the content strategy and development of our blog, managing the content and communication for our VIP advocate platform “Devolutions Force,” and working closely with our PR partners around the world. I also handle our off-site content opportunities (magazines, journals, newspapers, etc.). Academically, I have a bachelor’s degree in marketing. When I’m not working, I sing in a band, and I enjoy watching my favorite movies again and again. I also love cooking, and during the pandemic, I became a bread expert — I can now bake the most amazing key lime pie on earth (if I do say so myself!). Plus, I recently discovered LEGO and there is no turning back — I’m hooked! I’m always happy to help, and you can reach me directly at lcadieux@devolutions.net.

The managed services marketplace is booming, with the global marketplace projected to hit $393.72 billion USD by 2028. And by 2025, 6 in 10 organizations will depend on Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to cost-effectively optimize IT operations, improve efficiencies, ensure compliance, and strengthen security.

However, despite this significant overall growth, not all MSPs will reap the biggest rewards. In an interview with MSPInsights.com, Gary Pica, President of MSP training and consulting firm TruMethods said that: “The leading 25 percent of MSPs are commanding 20-30 percent higher subscription prices than their peers and achieving growth and profitability levels never seen before. The bottom half of the market, by contrast, is struggling with prices and margins that are too low.”

There are many factors that separate high-performing MSPs from those that struggle. However, one of the biggest factors is the use of an effective remote monitoring and management (RMM) solution. And that brings us to our November poll question...

Poll Question

MSPs of the Devolutions community, what are the top 3 features that you look for in a RMM solution?

Some potential features that might make your list include (but are not limited to):

  • Workflow management
  • Service management
  • Ticketing
  • ITIL policy compliance
  • Asset tracking
  • Security management
  • Patch management
  • PSA integration

And as a follow-up to the poll question: please also tell us what RMM solution you’re currently using, and if you’re satisfied with it (and why/why not).

What is a RMM Solution?

For those outside of the MSP space or new to the IT world, a RMM solution is used for network management and asset monitoring for IT systems. It enables visibility over connected endpoints, actions taken, and network performance, and ensures that remotely connected IT assets are performing optimally and operating in accordance with standards. RMM solutions usually feature tools that allow IT professionals to track issues, monitor systems, allocate tasks, and automate maintenance jobs. With properly maintained remote monitoring, businesses can improve both network performance and network security.
