July
July is when most of us spend as much time outside as possible, basking under the sun. It’s kind of a cultural thing, because we all know in the back of our minds that in just a few months the weather will turn colder, and we’ll be back to scraping the ice and snow from our cars (ugh).
But that inevitability did not distract us from getting a lot of stuff done! We started the month by having a chat with Maurice, our VP of Business Solutions, about his team’s experience at MSP Expo 2022 (where Devolutions was a Silver Sponsor, and we’re heading back there in 2023!). We also unveiled a flurry of major product updates (v2022.2) for Remote Desktop Manager, Devolutions Server, and Devolutions Workspace.
We also shared 20 shocking cybercrime statistics (2022 edition), and released a new white paper produced in conjunction with Petri entitled “Cybersecurity vs. IT Security — Taking Responsibility for Organizational Information Security.”
Of course, we managed to squeeze in some fun stuff as well. We invited the community write the text for two panels in Patrick’s special SysAdmin Appreciation Day comic. And speaking of Patrick: his July edition of Sysadminotaur #120 – Bias was a rallying cry for CSOs everywhere!
August
August is when kids start to dread the upcoming school year — which is kind of funny, because parents LOVE it for the exact same reason (how it’s possible for a kid to get bored with dozens of video games and an infinite array of YouTube videos is a mystery).
We started by looking at 7 smart home security risks that could be living rent-free and could start breaking bad (kind of like HAL 9000 in Spacy Odyssey: 2001). We also shared a snapshot of life at Devolutions, took a closer look at the benefits of integrating multiple Devolutions’ solutions, and Marc-André looked at how to extend the Microsoft RDP client with API hooking. Plus, we provided a tutorial on how to request and approve/deny temporary access in Password Hub Business.
We also had some BIG news on the Sysadminotaur front: a new Sysadminotaur website with EVERY comic ever created, plus the short animated feature “Vault,” and desktop wallpapers. And the August edition of Sysadminotaur #121 – Redundancy featured a contribution from our SysAdmin Appreciation Day contest winner Germano!
September
September was a busy month here on Planet Devolutions. We kicked things off by announcing the availability of a new white paper that we created in conjunction with Petri entitled “Top Challenges for IT Security Professionals in 2022.”
And speaking of InfoSec challenges and issues, we also looked at the top 5 reasons why hackers are increasingly targeting small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), explored the differences between two-factor authentication (2FA) and multi-factor authentication (MFA), published an IT Security Glossary of Terms, and looked at 4 types of remote working challenges that a remote access tool must address.
On the fun side, Coralie shared her best board game recommendations, and Sysadminotaur #122 – Hot Chip had us laughing (poor Phil!).
October
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and so we started off by asking the community to share their best cybersecurity advice (check out the results here!). Also in keeping with the Cybersecurity Awareness Month theme, we were thrilled to announce the availability of the State of IT Security in SMBs in 2022/23 survey infographic and report.
We also started diving into the survey results by looking at cybersecurity threats in SMBs along with recommendations (here is part 1, and here is part 2), announced a slate of new videos added to the RDM Pro Tips Video Series hosted by Yann, and shared that Remote Desktop Manager Free and Enterprise are now unified as single download.
For fun (well, the scary kind of fun), Coralie surveyed the movie geeks here at Devolutions, and put together a list of recommendations for a Halloween movie marathon. And Patrick created Sysadminotaur #123 – Hack Attack, which resonated with many IT pros!
November
November was another busy month. To start with, Sebastien shared a very important notice regarding high-severity vulnerabilities in OpenSSL (please note: Devolutions products are NOT affected by these vulnerabilities), and Patrick explored how to use TRIM to meet enhanced business, security, and compliance needs (by the way, we are talking about Patrick Pilotte, our brilliant Operations Security Specialist, and not Patrick Désilets, the brilliant creator of Sysadminotaur).
Also in November, we continued our deeper look at the State of Cybersecurity in SMBs in 2022/23 survey report by exploring privileged access management (PAM) in SMBs + recommendations, as well as IT security awareness in SMBs + recommendations.
For entertainment, Coralie immersed us in some sweet, sweet nostalgia by looking at cool tech relics from the good ‘ol days (1980s vintage sound systems FTW!), and Patrick put together a montage of four hilarious Black Friday-themed comics with Sysadminotaur #124 — Black Friday Funnies (coupon codes for ransomware demands ROFL!).
December
And here we are in the final month of the year! We hit the ground running (but not before checking for ice and snow first!) with another deep dive into the Devolutions State of IT Security in SMBs in 2023/23 survey report with a look at remote access management in SMBs + recommendations.
After months of hard work (and testing, testing, and more testing), we released the third major update of the year (v2022.3) of Remote Desktop Manager, Devolutions Server, and Password Hub Business. We also took a closer look at new integrations across these updated solutions (along with our companion tools) that enhance functionality, security, governance, productivity, and affordability.
Also earlier this month, Richard, one of the talented members of our Architecture Team, explored advanced VNC features in Remote Desktop Manager. Plus, we had a GREAT time at Devolutions Central Online, which took place on December 7 (check out the recap here!).
And last but certainly not least, Patrick was inspired by the season to create Sysadminotaur #125 – Christmas (we’re still waiting for Jeff Bezos to comment…).
AND THAT’S A WRAP!
2022 was an exciting adventure here at Devolutions, and we’re deeply grateful that you joined us for the journey. Whether you are fairly new to the Devolutions community, or you have been with us for many years, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Your loyalty and partnership mean everything to us.
We will see you again very shortly as the curtain rises on 2023. As our CEO David likes to say: the past has been great, but be assured that the best is yet to come!
