October has arrived, which means that in many countries around the world children will look forward to eating plenty of candy…and dentists will look forward to plenty of appointments!
But did you know that Halloween is not just about going trick-or-treating? Here are some strange facts about this annual event:
- Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which took place on November 1. The Celts lived 2,000 years ago mostly in the area that is modern-day Ireland, the UK, and Northern France.
- The world’s biggest walk-through indoor haunted house is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is a staggering 7,183 feet/2,189 meters in length.
- The mask worn by the killer in the famous horror movie “Halloween” was actually a Captain Kirk mask (OK, this one isn’t really about Halloween, but it’s certifiably geeky and so we had to include it!).
Now that your brain is popping with some Halloween trivia, let’s turn our attention to the main attraction: the October poll question.
This month, we want you to light some candles, close the windows, sit down in the creakiest rocking chair you can find, and terrify us with the scariest IT story you’ve ever experienced.
What do we mean by “scariest”? That’s up to you. It could be an all-out disaster that still sends shivers up and down your spine. Or it could be a catastrophe that was averted or largely avoided — but still terrified you.
As long as it’s something that REALLY freaked you out, then we want to hear about it. Indeed, to paraphrase the followers of the Red God from Game of Thrones: “At times the IT world is dark and full of terrors.”
In early November, we’ll look at some of the most chilling tales and announce two randomly-selected participants who will each receive a $25 Amazon gift card.
Thanks, and we look forward to your scary stories!
