Why should you integrate Entra ID/Azure PIM with RDM?

For organizations using Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory), Azure PIM helps enforce least-privilege access by allowing users to activate (elevate) roles for a specified account only when needed and for a limited time. It's a powerful security tool, but switching between portals or tools to activate a role can be disruptive.

With Azure PIM control directly available in Remote Desktop Manager, users can:

  • Existing Request and activate Entra ID roles directly within RDM without opening the Azure portal.

  • New Request and activate privileged group membership.

  • New Request and activate an Azure role for scopes like subscriptions, resource groups, or individual resources.

  • New Approve requests directly within RDM if the configured user is an approver.

Azure PIM in RDM in action

Configure the Azure Privileged Identity Management session to allow RDM users to view their assigned and eligible Azure roles. With just a few clicks, an RDM user can activate a role for a predefined or custom duration, provide a justification, and immediately access the resources they need without leaving the Remote Desktop Manager interface.

Integrating Azure Privileged Identity Management into Remote Desktop Manager

Adding enhanced Azure PIM functionality to Remote Desktop Manager eliminates the need to switch back and forth between dashboards. Centralizing your team's sessions into RDM means easily sharing connections, enhanced logging, and greater security through in-depth permissions.
