The use of passkeys is growing. A global FIDO Alliance survey found that between 2022 and 2024, consumer awareness of passkeys surged by 50%. And Google reports that passkeys have been used more than a billion times across over 400 million user accounts.
To better understand passkey interest and adoption across the Devolutions community, last month we asked: Does your company use passkeys for authentication?
A deeper look at passkeys
In just a moment, we’ll look at the responses. First, we wanted to highlight this great new article by our Subject Matter Expert, Adam, which explores the origins, mechanics, and practical applications of passkeys. Adam also dives into how Devolutions has embraced passkeys by integrating them into our products and services.
The responses
Looking at the responses, approximately 40% of community members are using passkeys to some extent (either as standard practice for all users, or currently limited to admin users).
That leaves about 60% of community members who are not using passkeys at this time. Interestingly however, nearly all of them said that their company is looking into passkeys, which is good news — especially when it comes to resisting phishing, which remains the #1 attack method used by hackers. Phishing was also the top cyber threat worry for SMBs according to the most recent State of IT Security in SMBs Survey by Devolutions.
Resources for passkey adoption
In addition to Adam’s new article that we highlighted earlier, here are some resources to help community members make passkey implementation in their company simpler and successful:
