At Devolutions, we want all of our valued users to enjoy the best possible performance, functionality, and security. To ensure this, on occasion it is necessary for us to wind down a product, function, or service.
Per this commitment to our users, we are announcing the impending removal on September 1st of Devolutions Online Drive and Online Backup for Remote Desktop Manager. Keep reading for additional details, along with options to prevent data loss.
About Devolutions Online Drive
Devolutions Online Drive is a free, cloud-based file storage service that is designed to store and synchronize Remote Desktop Manager sessions and credential data.
Why the removal?
Devolutions Online Drive was deprecated in 2023, primarily because far superior alternatives became available including Devolutions Hub Personal (more on this below).
We have now determined that Devolutions Online Drive’s data sources rely on technologies and infrastructures that can no longer be effectively supported by our team. As a result, the data sources (specifically, the data file “Connection.dod”) will be removed in Remote Desktop Manager 2025.2, which is scheduled for release later in 2025.
Preventing data loss
To prevent data loss, as the Devolutions Online Drive service will be removed and any remaining data sources will become inaccessible, we recommend that users migrate their data to Devolutions Hub Personal, or use Remote Desktop Manager’s File Backup function. Both of these are discussed below.
Migrating data to Devolutions Hub Personal (recommended)
Devolutions Hub Personal serves as a data source for Remote Desktop Manager. It also provides a secure cloud-based vault for users to safeguard and manage personal passwords, and can be paired with the Devolutions’ Workspace browser extension to safely inject credentials into websites. Devolutions Hub Personal is available at no cost.
For step-by-step guidance on migrating from Devolutions Online Drive to Devolutions Hub Personal, please consult this section of the Knowledge Base, or watch this video in Devolutions Academy.
About Online Backup
Users can also back up SQLite or XML data sources in a local file with a master key through Remote Desktop Manager’s built-in File Backup function. Users who do not wish to store the backup file locally can place it in a folder synchronized by a cloud provider of their choice (e.g., OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox).
For step-by-step instructions on using File Backup, please consult this section of the Knowledge Base.
We are here to help
Users who need additional support, or who have further questions, are invited to contact us. We are here to ensure that the transition from using Devolutions Online Drive to either Devolutions Hub (recommended) and File Backup is easy and efficient.
