Laurence Cadieux

Hello! My name is Laurence Cadieux, and I’m a Communication Coordinnator here at Devolutions. My role includes overseeing the content strategy and development of our blog, managing the content and communication for our VIP advocate platform “Devolutions Force,” and working closely with our PR partners around the world. I also handle our off-site content opportunities (magazines, journals, newspapers, etc.). Academically, I have a bachelor’s degree in marketing. When I’m not working, I sing in a band, and I enjoy watching my favorite movies again and again. I also love cooking, and during the pandemic, I became a bread expert — I can now bake the most amazing key lime pie on earth (if I do say so myself!). Plus, I recently discovered LEGO and there is no turning back — I’m hooked! I’m always happy to help, and you can reach me directly at lcadieux@devolutions.net.

July Poll Question: Who is Responsible for Cybersecurity in Your Company?

To say that strong cybersecurity is merely important, is like saying that the Himalayas are just hilly, that the Arctic is a bit chilly, or that the final season of Game of Thrones was a tad disappointing (sorry, we won’t elaborate — those S8 GoT wounds are still fresh!).

Strong cybersecurity is absolutely essential, and any company that believes otherwise is, as the old saying goes, “playing with fire.” There are over 2,220 cyberattacks per day — which is one every 39 seconds — and a joint cybersecurity advisory issued by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the NSA and FBI, and their counterparts in Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and United Kingdom warns that as long as security holes exist, then hackers will continue to exploit them.

And that brings us to July’s poll question. Given the critical importance of having a strong cybersecurity profile, we would like to know: who is responsible for cybersecurity in your company?

For example, this role could be a:

  • CISO
  • CSO
  • CIO
  • SysAdmin
  • Data Privacy Officer
  • Information Security Manager
  • Network Security Administrator
  • Cybersecurity Manager
  • IT Director

Please note that these are just some of the potential roles. There are many more possibilities (here is a list of 50!).

Please also share if your company partners with a Managed Services Provider (MSP).

Why Are We Asking This?

The reason we are asking this question is rooted in our commitment to provide leadership in the cybersecurity and IT security space (which Max wrote about recently). Essentially, we want to glean — and then share — a better understanding of what role/job title is responsible for cybersecurity.

This understanding is especially important in small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), because they typically have more fluid roles and responsibilities. For example, it is not uncommon for the SysAdmin in a SMB to essentially be in charge of the company’s entire cybersecurity and IT security posture (these are the brilliant “IT gurus” who tirelessly defend the thin virtual line between productivity and chaos — but they usually don’t get much gratitude, because their colleagues don’t actually understand what they do!).

You Could Win

By participating in the July poll, you’ll be automatically entered to win one of two $25 Amazon gift cards. No, that’s not enough to buy a swimming pool to beat the hot, humid summer. But it is certainly enough to buy a lawn sprinkler that you can run through back-and-forth (if any of your neighbors look at you a bit strangely, just tell them that you’re a Certified Professional Sprinkler Tester).

In early August, we’ll share the responses and announce the lucky winners. Thank you in advance for participating!
