Pioneering total quality management guru W. Edwards Deming said that “quality is everyone’s responsibility.” While this is indeed true, there are some technical superheroes who spend their days (and sometimes their nights) following up on customer issues and ensuring that everything works perfectly. Today, I’m pleased to introduce you to the newest member of our elite Service Desk Technician team: Richard Boisvert!

I recently had the opportunity to chat with Richard, to learn more about his experience, background, role at Devolutions, and what he likes to do outside of work. Below is a snapshot of our conversation:

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

I studied Computer Science at CEGEP Edouard-Montpetit, which is close to Montreal. After graduating, I spent nine years working at one of the big four accounting firms in Montreal. I then started volunteering at the Montreal SPCA, and when an opportunity to work there opened up, I enthusiastically grabbed it. As you may know, the SPCA is a non-profit organization with limited resources, and it was during that experience that I started using Remote Desktop Manager Free. I was amazed that such a robust and useful product was —and still is — offered at no cost. A year later, I moved outside of Montreal and closer to Lavaltrie, which is where Devolutions is headquartered. I took this as a sign that I was meant to work here!

What would you say is your biggest achievement?

Having an incredible little boy who was born in July 2020. He is my beacon of joy and hope during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?

I read a few interviews with our CEO David Hervieux and was really impressed by his philosophy and approach. Then I jumped into Google Maps and used the 360-degree view to see inside the building, and thought, “Hey, it would be great to work there!” And as I mentioned, since I was already enjoyed using Devolutions’ products, it made perfect sense for me to be part of the team.

What would you say are your top three strengths at work?

First, I am very dedicated and committed to my work and teammates. I am always happy to assist others as much as possible. Second, I have a strong work ethic and try to be as organized and productive as possible. I also want my team to be as successful as possible. Third, I am a fast learner. I have discovered that this is a common trait among employees here at Devolutions. Everyone is quick to learn new concepts and adapt to new situations.

What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools you use?

As a Service Desk Technician, I focus on analyzing and troubleshooting customer-related issues across our products, primarily Devolutions Server, Wayk Bastion, and Remote Desktop Manager. I also create scripts to improve simplicity and efficiency — for example, deploying our solutions or for internal use. The main tools that I use are Slack, Remote Desktop Manager, Devolutions Server, GoToMeeting, and Snagit.

What is your impression of working here?

The environment is the friendliest that I have ever experienced. It feels like a family — albeit a somewhat large one! — and everyone is happy to assist you or have a chat.

What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?

I want to provide an exceptional experience to our customers and help my team improve and do the best work possible.

On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?

I enjoy reading science fiction, especially with a beer — IPA or stout preferably — or with a scotch! I also enjoy going on walks with my dogs.
