IT. IS. OVER. Of course, we’re talking about the annus horribilis known as 2020. Let’s see, we had:
- So many hurricanes and tropical storms that the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration actually ran out of official names, and had to start using Greek names.
- Bush fires ravaged huge parts of Australia, and wildfires on the U.S. west coast were so severe that San Francisco looked like something out of Blade Runner 2049.
- Gigantic swarms of locusts attacked East Africa.
And then there was the hyphenated word that virtually nobody knew at the beginning of the year, but that no one will ever be able to forget: COVID-19.
Despite the pandemic and these environmental catastrophes, however, there were actually some good things that happened in 2020 as well, such as:
- The number of pet adoptions — especially “rescue animals” from shelters — increased dramatically, as more people stuck at home realized they had some love to give a dog, cat, rabbit, or even a kangaroo (yes, really).
- The level of support and kindness in many communities reached new heights, and nearly 3 out of 4 millennials — yes, the demographic that always gets unfairly dumped on for being selfish — have donated money during the pandemic.
- And of course, how could we overlook the fact that in early December, the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine was given in the UK. Let’s all hope that this truly is the beginning of the end!
All in all, 2020 had its ups and (dramatic) downs — which brings us to the January poll question. There are two parts to the inaugural poll for 2021:
- Please share how your projects went in 2020. What succeeded? What didn’t? What adjustments did you make — some because you wanted to, and others because you had to?
- What projects do you have planned for 2021? Maybe you’re partnering with an MSP, enrolling end users in cybersecurity training, introducing passwordless authentication— or anything else significant.
