We’re thrilled to welcome a good new programmer to our Software Development team: please give a warm Devolutions welcome to Jean-Francois Maher!

I recently had the chance to chat with Jean-Francois to learn more about his background, his role here at Devolutions, and his hobbies — including the fact that he’s really into board games, which is great since we have some huge board game fans around here. Here’s a look at our conversation:

Can you tell me a bit about your background

I hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM), and I have professional experience as a full-stack web developer. Previously, I worked in the environmental field as a tech for the government, and as an operator in a water treatment facility.

What would you say is your biggest achievement?

I would say my biggest achievement is raising my daughter, while at the same time completing my bachelor’s degree.

What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?

The fact that it’s close to my home is a major factor, and also the working environment is really cool!

What would you say are your top three strengths at work?

I’d say determination, curiosity, and the ability to learn things quickly.

What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools you use?

Currently, I’m on the Devolutions Password Hub team. Most often, I work in C#, Typescript and SQL.

What is your impression of working here?

It doesn’t really feel like work. It feels like I’m doing what I enjoy the most, which is writing code in a friendly atmosphere.

What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?

I would like to master all of the Devolutions solutions. Eventually, I would like to be a team lead.

On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?

I like reading and watching movies and TV series. But my number one hobby is board games. I like to play them, but at this point I think I’m more of a collector with over 500 board games!

Please share a few words with our community of IT pros:

I’m a late bloomer in the field of computer science, so my advice to anyone who likes to code and would love to join the Devolutions team is never give up. It’s never too late to learn!
