It’s Monday, which means another opportunity to meet a great new Devolutions team member. Today, please welcome Elizabeth Walsh, our new Human Resources Officer!

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Elizabeth — who is VERY friendly and easy to communicate with — and learn more about her experience and role here at Devolutions. Here’s a snapshot of our conversation:

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

Yes! In college, I studied human sciences because I've always been interested in contemporary issues around the world. Then, I continued to university and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. At the time, my plan was to teach Sociology at the college level and help make people aware of the many challenges that exist in society. After university, I decided to obtain a certificate in Human Resources, and right now, I’m working on my master’s degree in specialized Human Resource Management.

The main reason I’m interested in human resources is that it requires a passion for developing employees, as well as strong social, communication and listening skills. I have always believed that people are the foundation of any organization. In fact, without employees, there is no organization at all! Keeping employees motivated, engaged and supported is a top priority now more than ever — especially for organizations that want to lead their marketplace and industry.

What would you say is your biggest achievement?

I would say at this point my biggest achievement is joining Devolutions in an important human resource role. I was thrilled to find a great job with a leading company, and to do something that is directly in my area of specialization.

What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?

It’s clear that Devolutions’ leadership, which is headed by our CEO David, believes that supporting employees is an investment, and not an expense. It is also obvious that the culture here is oriented towards employee well-being and ongoing skills and knowledge development.

What would you say are your top three strengths at work?

First, I have good organization skills and can handle many different tasks. Second, I am very determined in my work, and I like getting things done. Third, I am rigorous and always pay attention to details.

What tasks do you carry out in your job?

In collaboration with Mélissa, our Human Resources Director, right now I’m updating all of our documentation related to human resources, such as our employee manual, job descriptions for online postings, internal procedure documents, and so on.

What is your impression of working here?

I’m surrounded by a great team and co-workers, and I’m thrilled to be part of the company. Everyone I speak to is very friendly and kind. It’s a fantastic working environment with ideal conditions.

What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?

I would like to contribute by creating an innovative project that makes our employees even more engaged and happy to work here. Also, when the topic of employee well-being, support, and development is discussed in the media, at conferences, and in universities and colleges, I would like Devolutions to be the company that people admire the most and think of first.

On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?

My first passion is horseback riding, but I also like skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. Speaking of summer: one of the things that I love doing in the summer is taking road trips! When you’re traveling, you learn to improvise, to make do with what you have, to feel connected with the world, to appreciate beautiful landscapes, and to meet new people. Finally, I also like watching TV series.
