In March, we asked you to share the pros and cons of your remote access tool. We truly expected most of you to comment on popular tools like TeamViewer, ScreenConnect and LogMeIn. However, we were a little surprised to learn that many of you are using Remote Desktop Manager (RDM) as your preferred solution.

Why? Well, it’s because RDM is built to do a whole bunch of useful things (remote connection management, password management, logging, auditing, etc.), while Wayk Now is our pure, dedicated remote access solution. On the other hand, we also understand why you consider RDM as a remote access tool since you use it to remotely access machine every day.

Pros

With this in mind, we are grateful and happy to learn that many of you are getting even more value out of RDM. Here are the pros you identified of using RDM as your remote access tool:

  • It does what you need it to.
  • You can quickly access it from anywhere.
  • Everything is in one place — there’s no need to open other tools.
  • It has a complete feature set.
  • It offers a lot of add-ons to integrate tools.
  • You can easily share connections throughout the organization.
Cons

On the other side of the spectrum, here are the cons you identified of using RDM as your remote access tool:

  • Its configuration doesn’t sync across devices.
  • It’s not free.
  • Lack of speed (more on this below).
  • DPS connection when changing network state due to VPN.
  • It can be hard to integrate with systems if the settings are not properly configured.
  • When using a shared database, all users have to update RDM when one user updates RDM and the database.

The Need for Speed

We are IT pros, too, and trust us: we know how vital it is to move quickly. That is why we are constantly working to improve the speed of RDM with every update. The reason we can’t just dial up the velocity and make everything ultra-fast at all times is that, as mentioned above, RDM is built to support a lot more than just remote access. It’s kind of like taking a jumbo jet across the city instead of a helicopter. By the time the jumbo jet taxis to the end of the runway and is cleared for takeoff, the helicopter is already in the air and half way to its destination.

Our Advice

If you’re happy using RDM as your remote access tool, then that’s great! We’re happy that you’re happy. However, if you are looking for more speed and a more streamlined experience, we recommend taking a look at Wayk Now. Remember, Wayk Now is free for both personal and commercial use. An affordable Enterprise version is also available if you need a more sophisticated feature set. To learn more, check out the comparison of Wayk Now licensing vs. TeamViewer and LogMeIn.

And the Winners Are…

As far as we’re concerned, you’re ALL winners for using RDM to save time, improve performance, enhance security, and control the IT chaos in your world. It makes us feel like winners, too, knowing that we’re helping you out each day. Together, we are the champions!

Thank you again for participating in our poll. We hadn’t expected it to be an RDM love-fest (but we’re happy it turned out that way!). We’ll be posting the April poll very soon. Stay tuned!
