As you may have noticed, one of the fastest-growing teams here at Devolutions is our Security Group. And since you can never have too much security talent, please allow me to introduce you to the newest member: Félix Boulet, Operational Security Specialist!

Like everyone else on his team, Félix is passionate about cyber security. Seriously — you should see their team meetings. They are like Special Agents planning something of global (or maybe galactic) importance. I recently had the chance to chat with Félix to learn more about his role and background. Here is what he was allowed to tell me (note: he may have told me more than what appears below, but my memory may have been erased, so who really knows?)

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

I started my career in industrial maintenance and made a slow transition to IT, as it was — and still is — my passion and my preferred field. I seriously kicked off my career by getting a degree in cybersecurity by the Polytechnique in Montreal, and by completing the well-known GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) certification. I was eventually offered the opportunity to work as an Operation Security Specialist at Devolutions, where plenty of challenges and awesome projects await me every day.

What would you say is your biggest achievement?

I believe my biggest achievement was following my gut instinct and radically changing my career path to cybersecurity. I knew that overlapping a full-time job with academic studies would not be easy, but in the end, I managed to make my way through and found my true calling.

What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?

For years, I had heard many good things from friends and family members about Devolutions, and how it was one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the area and putting the city of Lavaltrie on the IT map thanks to David Hervieux and his crew. When I was offered the opportunity to interview here, I jumped on it. While I had high expectations, I was still surprised by how positive the office atmosphere was. Everyone looked joyful and willing to be part of this one great big team that is Devolutions. The work environment is exceptional, with candy machines, slush machines, pinball, volleyball fields, and on and on. It confirmed right away that I wanted to make a career here!

What would you say are your top three strengths at work?

First, I would say that I am quick on my feet, mainly because I am a doer. I can handle projects from start to finish without having to constantly wait for others to engage in the next step. I am not afraid to give 110% effort, which is why I can be productive early and jump on problems without being micromanaged.

Second, I would say that I am eager to learn things, especially about cybersecurity. Continuous education is really important to me, and I am constantly challenging myself by focusing on my career development and taking online classes.

Third, I would say that I am a team player. I do not let my colleagues down and will support them whenever possible. I believe in the power of a strong team.

What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools you use?

I am involved in all security initiatives that relate to protecting our assets. I am the first point of contact for security incidents. I handle detection, as well as day-to-day security, to make sure that everything is in order. When I have some time left, I concentrate on strengthening our systems and architecture to always stay ahead of the latest threats.

I also manage our Security Information and Event Management system, vulnerability management and detection tools, sandboxes, and other online tools related to basic malware analysis. I also work on projects that involve host-based protection software, DDoS mitigation, web application firewalls, and more. In such a fast-growing company, I don’t have time to be bored, as I will always stay on the leading edge of the latest technologies.

What is your impression of working here?

Devolutions is awesome! I especially love our weekly lunch, where all our colleagues and management staff eat together. It truly unifies our big team. There are many activities and events for employees to get involved with, and it’s clear that the company really invests in its people. I mean, have you ever heard of a CEO buying a flamethrower for you to try out?! Well, it happened here!

What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?

I want to establish myself here and grow with the security team. Since I hail from Lanaudière, which is about an hour away from Lavaltrie, I am more than happy to make a career here. I already know that Devolutions will offer the next must-have IT solutions on the market, and I intend to make sure that no cyber threats hinder this growth.

On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?

I love learning about security and IT in general. I am constantly taking classes and reading articles and books that keep me up-to-date on the latest trends in cybersecurity. When I have some time left, I enjoy spending time with my family and getting out into the wild and relaxing.
