We’re constantly growing, and what better way to start the new year than by introducing you to our great new team member: please give a warm Devolutions welcome to Sebastien Verreault, our newest Quality Assurance Specialist!
Sebastien is versatile and multi-talented in his work, and in his personal life. He’s also very smart and easy going, which will really help him fit into the Devolutions family. Recently, I had the chance to chat with Sebastien to learn more about his experience, his role here at Devolutions, his hobbies, and more. Here is a snapshot of our conversation:
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
From the ages of 13 to 18, I was part of the Canadian Cadet Organization. I learned a lot from that experience — not only about myself, but also about things such as leadership, discipline and teamwork. After that, I went to college where I did not exactly fit in, but I still made it to university. Since then, I’ve been looking for my true calling, and I also spent some more time in school. I’ve had many jobs in many different fields, which has given me a lot of insight into the importance of quality assurance.
What would you say is your biggest personal achievement?
I used to do a lot of cycling — about 2,000 kilometers each summer every year. One day, I decided to go on a little trip by myself with almost no money and a tent. So I rode from Joliette to Quebec City and back, which is about 500 kilometers, plus another 100 kilometers in Quebec City so that I could explore the city. I rode all the way back in one day, which is around 250 kilometers. I have also won a few volleyball tournaments and earned two gold medals while playing volleyball in college.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
For a while, a few friends of mine had been telling me how awesome it is to work at Devolutions. When I first visited the office, it was exactly how they’d described it to me. It really feels like a family.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
I am a fast learner, versatile, and self-educated. I do not have any problem pushing my limits and learning more by myself.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools you use?
As a Quality Assurance Specialist, a big part of my job is to make sure that when there is a release coming up, we test it thoroughly through internal diagnostics, beta trials, and other methods, so that our users don’t run into any challenges or problems. I also spend time hunting for bugs across all of our products and on different platforms, and I then report my findings to our Development Team so they can take a closer look and fix any issues.
What is your impression of working here?
The atmosphere is heartwarming and very friendly. There is so much to learn, to find, and to do. Even though I spend most of my day in front of a computer, time flies. In addition, the working conditions are amazing and unique.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
First and foremost, I want to learn as much as I can. As I mentioned, there is so much here to learn and do. There are also many opportunities here to develop my skills and grow along with the company. In the long term, I would like to be able to tackle all kinds of situations. Perhaps I will also learn how to code and join the Development Team.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I have always been very open minded when it comes to hobbies. From sports to training to gaming to movies to camping — you could say that I like doing a little bit of everything.
