One of the best things about working at Devolutions is being surrounded by people with different (geeky) hobbies. And that’s why I’m delighted to shine today’s new employee spotlight on James Lafleur, who is a specialist in two areas: customer support and…wait for it…Dungeons and Dragons! How cool is that?
Truly, the only things I know about D&D come from watching Stranger Things — so basically, I know next to nothing. But I’m always willing to learn, and who knows, maybe in a little while, I’ll be a chaotic good half-elf in search of arcane spells to improve my hit points (or something like that).
For now, to help you get to know him a little better, here’s a look at a conversation I recently had with James:
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
When I was young, my father introduced me to computers. I was instantly hooked, and have been learning about them ever since. My passion for computers also led me to the Centre Professionnel des Riverains, after which I launched my career. I’m glad that Devolutions gave me the opportunity to learn even more as part of the support team.
So far in your career, what has been your biggest achievement?
I’d say that my biggest achievement was becoming a dad and a husband at a young age while pursuing a career in a field that I love.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
I kept hearing about how Devolutions was the perfect work environment — and that reputation is true! Everyone is kind and helpful, which proves that it’s possible to work hard and get the job done while still having fun. It’s the first time in my life that I am glad to go to work each morning, and I’m proud to be a part of the team.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
First, I’d say that I’m patient and don’t mind working hard to resolve issues that come up each day, even if it takes a while to sort out. Second, I’d say that I’m resourceful and am always seeking information either on my own or with the help of my colleagues. Third, I’d say that I have a very strong thirst for knowledge. I’ve been like that my whole life, and will continue doing my best to keep the fire burning!
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?
My role involves providing our customers with the best possible support, while at the same time staying up-to-date on all product news, developments and plans.
What are your impressions of working here?
I feel fortunate to be part of such an incredibly qualified team. As I said earlier, this is the first time in my life that I am thrilled to go to work each morning. I have no doubt that working at Devolutions will help me become a better technical support specialist.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
I would like to learn as much as I can and grow into an essential part of the Devolutions team. That way, I can be as useful as possible and share my knowledge with colleagues and customers.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I mentioned already that at a very young age, my father introduced to computers and sparked my passion in the field. Well, he also introduced me and my sister to the greatest game of all: Dungeons and Dragons! Since then, my world has been filled with numerous stories and full of legendary creatures and heroic adventurers. I intend to share this love of fantasy with my daughter as she gets older, and with my friends.
