Security is a critical priority these days, and it was great to see so many IT pros responding to our September poll question: “Which 2FA Do You Use and Why?

Before looking at some of the responses (and of course announcing our poll winner!), I wanted to highlight some great security-related news that we announced a few days ago: Devolutions was listed in Gartner's 2017 Market Guide for Privileged Access Management (PAM)! You can read more about this exciting news here.

Now, back to the poll: not surprisingly, many of you rely on one of the four popular 2FA products listed in this article written by my colleague Jenny, comparing Google Authenticator, Authy, Yubico and Duo.

Also not surprisingly (part 2), Google Authenticator was the most popular choice, because it’s easy to use, accessible almost anywhere, can be used with PAM modules (as pointed out by Jacob Evans), and it’s free. I use Google Authenticator for my personal use, too.

Other products that were mentioned include:

I also recommend that you check out FreeOTP, Authenticator Plus and SoundLogin, all of which have some impressive features and advantages (I’m planning on taking SoundLogin for a test drive and will post about it soon!).

A few of you also highlighted an issue that is sometimes overlooked when it comes to comparing and evaluating 2FA products, but is just as important for practical viability: price. Simply put, it doesn’t matter how solid or versatile a 2FA might be if the price is unjustifiable or unsustainable.

Please add your thoughts to the discussion by commenting below. Do you have any 2FA best practices or tips to share? I’m sure your IT pro counterparts across the world would appreciate your advice.

Did You Win?

This month’s randomly selected winners of a $25 Amazon gift certificate are Patrick Malm and Jacob Evans. Congratulations! Please email me at jdupont@devolutions.net to claim your prize.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who participated. Your responses have been constructive and I’m sure will help some of your fellow IT Pros. Please stay tuned for the October poll, which will be posted tomorrow!
