It’s Monday, which means it’s my pleasure to shine the spotlight on another smart and friendly professional who has joined our team: please say hello to our newest web developer, Nicolas Girot!
I love working with people who are passionate about their work, and Nicolas definitely fits this description. He loves his job and is constantly looking for ways to improve his skills. I’m sure he’ll be a valuable addition to our hard working and talented web development team.
I recently had a chat with Nicolas about his background, and what he thinks about his Devolutions adventure so far. Here’s a look at our conversation:
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
I started my career working in the media field, specifically in 3D and post-production for publicity and TV. Over the years, I started focusing more on the web, initially using technologies like Flash to make animated websites, and then integrating newer and better technologies, best practices and architecture.
What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?
As a perfectionist, I must admit that this is a hard question to answer —I always think things can be better. But to answer your question, I would probably say that my biggest professional achievement was co-leading my company's team in the event industry to represent Monaco at Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China, where we competed against other major companies from around the world, outside our main expertise, and reached the finals.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
It’s kind of a funny story. I moved to Lavaltrie in order to get away from the big city, and one day I saw this beautiful building with “Devolutions” on it. So, like any technology person, I jumped onto Google and did a search to learn more, and I was amazed at what this company was doing, and what they had accomplished over the years. I knew right away that I wanted to be part of this team. I sent in an application, was invited for an interview. I met our CEO David who took time from his busy schedule to describe Devolutions’ vision and values, including his commitment to supporting employees and helping them succeed professionally and personally. That conversation had a major impact on me, and convinced me even more that this would be a great place to work.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
First, I’d say that I always try to do my best, and work with passion and dedication. I don’t let my mind tell me what’s not possible. Second, I’m always open and willing to improve my work so that I can do a better job. Third, I’m flexible and can switch between one type of task and another, or one type of job and another.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?
Currently, I’m focusing primarily on web development in Angular and C#, using WebStorm and Visual Studio.
What are your impressions about working here?
My experience so far has been very positive. The people here are smart, interesting and kind. They also never lose sight of the fact that everything we do is about our users, and making their lives easier and better.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
I would like to apply my knowledge and experience to help Devolutions improve and evolve its products. At the same time, I would like to deepen my knowledge and learn from my great new colleagues.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I love spending time with my three children and my wife, playing golf and practicing archery. And of course, I have tons of projects at home that are partially completed because I never have time to finish them!
Please share a few words with our community of IT pros:
I think end user satisfaction is the most important priority. Working with passion and with a great team are both important, but ultimately it is not about us — it is about you. So, please keep sending us your feedback. Tell us what you like, and just as important, tell us what you want us to change or improve. We are always listening!
