As the CEO of Devolutions, it’s part of my job to look forward to the year ahead and develop a new action plan that builds on the previous year. As we gear up for another exciting year at Devolutions, I’d like to take a moment to share a few things.
First, on behalf of the Devolutions team, I’d like to wish all of you a happy, safe and successful 2017. And for those of you who have committed to doing something really crazy this year, I hope that you achieve your ambitious goal.
Second, I’d like to thank all of you for being a part of our community. We never take your support for granted, and we always keep in mind that we exist to serve YOU – not the other way around. I’m sorry if that sounds a little old-fashioned and simple, but sometimes the truth is kind of “low-tech”.
Third, with admiration and gratitude, I would also like to thank every member of the Devolutions team for their amazing effort, and for helping us build a culture of innovation, respect, expertise, collaboration, and customer service. I can’t put into words what a joy it is to work with such a talented and hard working team. To think that 7 years ago, I was working alone in a basement! Today, I’m proud to say our team counts around 60 members, including 40 full-time developers who all work extremely hard on our amazing product. It’s hard to imagine that we used to be a team of four. Now we’re so much bigger and better.
Finally, I’m glad to continue an annual tradition by presenting our Road Map for the year ahead. While 2016 was wonderful (check out the Year in Review for a recap), we all expect 2017 to be even better. Here is a snapshot of what we have in store for the year ahead:
Remote Desktop Manager for Windows
Remote Desktop Manager has come a long, long way over the years. But everything can be improved, and that’s why our focus for the year ahead will be primarily about optimization. This means we’ll be focusing our efforts on making RDM better, faster, more versatile, and more user-friendly. Some of the key features and enhancements that our development team is currently working on includes:
- WebDav Data Source
- CyberArk integration
- FreeRDP integration (an alternative to Microsoft RDC)
- Google Drive Integration
- Add a history to the inventory management
- Many enhancements and performance optimizations
Remote Desktop Manager for Mac
If you’re a Mac user, then don’t worry: we’ll be making some major improvements to Remote Desktop Manager for Mac, too. Here’s a sneak preview of what you can look forward to:
- WebDav Data Source
- New RDP Engine
- Reset Password Script
- Many enhancements and fixes to give users a more stable experience
Essentially, the above (plus other updates and improvements) is part of our longstanding commitment to offer Mac users the same features, functions and user experience as Windows users.
Remote Desktop Manager for iOS and Android
Both Remote Desktop Manager for iOS and Android have improved considerably since we launched them in late 2015, and many of the changes are thanks to advice and feedback from our community of IT pros. This year, we’ll be adding some exciting new features that will create an even better mobile experience, including:
- Data Source Synchronization via Wi-Fi
- Multilingual User Interface
- Wayk Now integration
- WebDav and FTP Data Source
Since launching Devolution Server (DVLS), we’ve seen a steady increase in the number of users. While I’m obviously happy about this, our DVLS development team is even more excited – because it means they get to develop new features and functions for more people! Here’s a look at what the team has in store for the next version:
- Multilingual User Interface
- Web edit (lets you add and modify entries via the web)
- View Passwords via the web
- Web base Inventory Management
- Web Browser Extension direct link
- Asset Manager integration
Devolutions Web Login
Yes, you’re right: the Devolutions Web Login actually dropped in late 2016. But we’ve received so much positive feedback in the last few weeks about this that I wanted to mention it in our Road Map since we’ll be making some improvements (stay tuned, we’ll post more in our blog at the right time).
If you’re unfamiliar with Devolutions Web Login, it’s a new feature that lets you easily create, store and auto-fill login credentials and passwords for any website, directly from your web browser. It’s a big time saver and cuts down on input errors, too. You can read more about this feature here.
Wayk Now 1.0 was one of our biggest releases last year. It’s a new tool that lets you take control of a remote computer, or allow an authorized user to take control of your computer. It’s perfect for giving or getting remote assistance. Plus, it’s free for personal use, and available for Windows, Max OS X and Linux (learn more here). In 2017, we have several additions and upgrades planned across multiple updates. Since Wayk Now is a brand new product, we decided to create a special road map for it. Stay tuned as we will post it soon!
Last year, some of you expressed your concern that our beloved comic Sysadminotaur might be heading into early retirement. Well don’t worry, because we’ve made arrangements to keep the gang around for another year! You’ll find a hilarious new comic in each monthly newsletter. Don’t forget to subscribe!
Thank You and Keep in Touch
Again, on behalf of the Devolutions team, I would like to thank you for your support and feedback. It’s because of you that 2016 was our best year ever, and we’ll do everything we can to earn your loyalty and trust in 2017, too.
As always, please let us know what you think of our solutions. Tell us what you like, and tell us what you want us to add, change, remove or improve. You can connect with us here in our blog, in our forum, through email, Spiceworks, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. We’re always listening to you!
