It’s my pleasure to introduce you to the newest member of Devolutions team: please say hello to Benoit Carrier!
I recently had a chat with Benoit to learn more about his background and goals. Below is a snapshot of our conversation:
Can you tell me a bit about your professional background?
I began my IT career as a level 3 technical support specialist. Since then, I’ve been heavily involved in all aspects of software, from development through to customer support, and everything in between.
What would you say is your biggest professional achievement so far?
There have been a few career highlights that I’m proud of. But if I had to choose just one ,it would be participating in the start-up battle at TechCrunch Disrupt NY 2013. That was an experience of a lifetime.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
Devolutions’ CEO David is a friend of mine, and I’ve been following the company since it started many years ago. I recently came to conclusion that it was time for me to come and join the fun!
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
I would say first of all that I’m pragmatic, and focused on being efficient and finding the best solutions. Next, I’d say that I’m driven and hard working. And third I’d say that I take my work to heart. That is, I am personally committed to going a good job, and supporting my colleagues.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?
Currently, I’m overseeing two of our new products, and ensuring that everyone on my team has the information they need to be productive and efficiency. As for tools, right now I’m mainly working with SQL Management Studio, Word and Lucidchart.
What are your impressions about working here?
As I mentioned a bit earlier, I’ve been following Devolutions for many years, and so was somewhat familiar the culture and vision. And I’m happy to say that my expectations have been met and exceeded! The environment is great, and I’d say it’s a really good mix of a west coast and east coast mentality. Everyone here works hard, but they also know when it’s time to relax and have fun.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
While there are many objectives and aims for me here, I’d say that it all combines to support a singular goal: to help make our great products even better for our users around the world.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
In the summer I enjoy playing softball. In the winter, I like playing dek hockey, which is similar to ball hockey, except that it’s played in an enclosed area.
Please share a few words with our community of IT pros.
A lot of companies say that their products are created by IT pros for IT pros, but that’s really not the case. But here at Devolutions, it’s 100 percent true, and that makes all the difference. Thank you for your loyalty and support, and I promise to work hard to help make our products even better.
