Devolutions is growing (yet) again, and today it’s my pleasure to introduce you to our great new QA, JP Charest. I had a chance to chat with JP to learn about his background, interests and role here with the Devolutions team. Here’s a snapshot of our conversation:
Can you tell me a bit about your professional background?
Last year I worked in a retail environment, and I learned a great deal about interacting with customers – and especially about how important quality is to their lives. Although price is important, the quality really determines whether they are happy with the purchase or if they aren’t. I will definitely be able to apply these insights in my work here at Devolutions, and in my professional and personal life for years to come.
What would you say is your biggest professional achievement so far?
I would say that my biggest professional achievement so far is that in my last job, I worked extremely hard and proved that I would go above and beyond my job description in order to help my team and company.
What was it about Devolutions that made you want to work here?
Although it wasn’t my primary responsibility, in my last job I became a kind of IT manager, providing support for my colleagues, installing computer stations, and fixing minor problems. And even before that, I have always wanted to work with computers, and have taught myself a great deal over the years. When a friend of mine told me about an opportunity to work with Devolutions, I checked out the company and was really impressed with what I learned, and so I applied. I was eager to work with a team of experienced IT pros.
What would you say are your top three strengths at work?
I would say curiosity, passion and open-mindedness. Firstly, I’m a really curious person and I like learning everything my brain can take. I think that’s a really good strength in a domain as vast and changing as IT. Secondly, I love what I do, and I have a passion to excel and succeed in my career. And I am open-minded, which is essential for working in a team environment, which I really enjoy.
What tasks do you carry out in your job, and what are some of the tools that you use?
Currently, I am working mostly with Remote Desktop Manager, testing requests from colleagues and support so that we can ensure that everything is working properly. For instance, when a user has an issue with RDM, my job is to reproduce it so that we can isolate the problem and find a solution. When I’m not busy doing that, I’m hunting bugs so that our team can fix them as fast as possible.
What are your impressions about working here?
It is really nice to see how a work environment can be fun! Obviously, people aren’t here only for the pay check. They are here because they like their job. I am really honored to be part of such a friendly team.
What goals would you like to achieve at Devolutions?
I wanted to start my career close to my field of interest, and I plan on getting my degree in IT. Devolutions is a great place to strive towards these goals.
On a personal note, what are some of your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy playing video games, watching Netflix and learning new things.
Please share a few words with our community of IT pros:
I am thrilled to be here at Devolutions. It’s a really nice environment where work, fun and knowledge all combine perfectly together. I can’t say how happy it makes me to have found a team like this!
