Stavanger is the 4th largest municipality in Norway, and home to about 130 000 residents.  Stavanger is a University city, and home to a number of institutions of higher education and research such as the International Research Institute of Stavanger. The city is also home to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the Petroleum Safety Authority of Norway, as well as the headquarters of energy giant Statoil.

Previously, Stavanger’s employees were facing several challenges, including:

  • They had to maintain multiple lists of their RDP/SSH connections.
  • They had to manually update each entry per user.
  • Every time they changed their password, they had to manually update all of their connections or else they wouldn’t be able to login.

The City of Stavanger’s Solution: Remote Desktop Manager

Since implementing RDM into their environment one year ago, the city of Stavanger is now able to:

  • Centralize and maintain a consolidated list of all RDP/SSH connections.
  • Maintain only one program for their entire team.
  • Use credentials to update entries, instead of doing it per connection/per user.
  • Centralize all of their credential and connection entries.
  • View who is actively using a connection.
  • View a log of previous connections.
  • Re-factor credential entry and match existing entries into one credential object, and link them to all connections who need them.
  • Use RDM on Citrix to provide access to internal servers for external providers that are hosting and maintaining services within the organization.

Here’s what Lars Holte, Advisor for the City of Stavanger, had to say about Remote Desktop Manager:

It offers ease of use, can scale up to manage even the most complex of needs, and has all the features everyone could possible need!"[/blockquote]
